We will meet online using Zoom from 7:00-8:30pm. Details on how to join the Zoom meeting will be sent to registered participants in advance of the seminar.

This seminar provides experienced trail runners with information to help them become effective trail running leaders for the Mountaineers. This seminar is usually a prerequisite --along with a mentored trail run(s) and/or committee approval-- to becoming an official trail run leader for the club. The seminar is free and open to all Mountaineers members.

We will discuss common leadership decision-making challenges and real-life leader experiences.

Seminar learning outcomes:

  • Ability to determine which kinds of trips you want to lead; knowledge of how to attract and screen participants.
  • Understanding of the expectations and preparation for the role of a trail running leader for the Mountaineers.
  • Preparation and confidence to handle common challenges you will encounter leading groups on the trail.
  • Understanding of the runners you will serve and the Foothills trail running committee and its work and goals.
  • Familiarity with club standards and rules for trail runs and general relevant club procedures for leaders (e.g., steps to take to report an emergency or safety issue).
