This is an activity for youth and family. For adults, please sign up only if you are bringing kid(s) along. Adults and children sign up as participants. Any age welcome. Parents can carry small children or pull them on a sled.
If you've never signed up your child for a Mountaineers activity, you can register them as Guest Family here: https://www.mountaineers.org/membership/join-the-mountaineers. Qualified Youth Leaders will be present. Please disregard the “request leader’s permission.” Kids are already permitted to register. Check the two boxes and click Register.
This will be a family-friendly easygoing hike with no elevation gain. Expect the pace to be slow to allow kids to keep up. The pond itself is 1 mile around, but we'll be hiking from the road so it'll be closer to 2 miles altogether. After rounding the pond we'll meet up to share some hot chocolate before walking back to the cars.
Here's a resource to rent snowshoes or other gear: https://www.wta.org/go-outside/trail-smarts/gear/where-to-rent-or-borrow-outdoor-gear. The Mountaineers also has a gear library you can join for a fee: https://www.mountaineers.org/membership/gear-library.
More details will be provided over email the week before the hike.
Meet at 8:45 AM. Plan to gather up, and be geared up to step off at 9 AM. Parking will be along NF-4832 road on the north side the road. The Gold Creek Pond parking lot is not available in the winter months. Sno-Park permits are required to park along NF-4832. Parking is crowded and fills up quickly in the morning. Arriving early to find a parking spot is recommenced. Carpooling is recommended to make parking easier, and to share the cost of a Sno-Park permit.

Required Equipment
Please bring layers for you and your child. Warm socks with waterproof boots. Hat, gloves, scarf, warm jacket, thin layers underneath if jacket is too hot during movement. Backpack for carrying layers recommended. Bring water and snacks for all participants.
Approaching the activity date, we'll take a look at the forecast and trip reports to judge whether or not snowshoes or microspikes will be needed. The trail can be icy & slippery, or with fresh snow it can be deep and we would need flotation (snowshoes).
