Climbing Conditioner - Rattlesnake Mountain (East)

Priority to Everett Basic Climbing Course students and grads. One of a series of hikes to help you get confident and fit for the summer.

  • Moderate, Strenuous
  • Moderate
  • Mileage: 11.0 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 2,800 ft

Our goal is to build a solid base leading up to the summer climbing season.  If you want to bring extra weight to carry, then go for it.  We start at Rattlesnake ledge, but our goal is 2 miles past the ledge and 1500 higher in elevation.

My objective is always to lead a hike inclusive of varying fitness and body types.  The goal is to travel at a pace that will help us build our aerobic base as opposed to racing for time.  That said, the trail climbs continuously with over 2800 feet of elevation gain.  I will hike upwards close to 2 mph or maybe a little slower.  On the way down I will move closer to 2.5 mph for an overall average of 2 mph or more.  If you have concerns before or during the hike, then I welcome and encourage you to ask questions.

We will start at the Rattlesnake Ledge parking lot.  I will ask if people want to carpool as part of the "hello hiker" email I send the week before the trip.  As always, carpooling is optional.
