Climbing Conditioner - Dirty Harry's Peak, Balcony & East Balcony

Dirty Harry's Peak Priority to Everett Basic Climbing Course students and grads. One of a series of hikes to help you get confident and fit for the summer.

  • *Varies*, Strenuous
  • Challenging
  • Mileage: 7.5 mi
  • Elevation Gain: 3,400 ft

Our goal is to build a solid base leading up to the summer climbing season.  If you want to bring extra weight to carry, then go for it.

We start at Dirty Harry's Peak Trailhead.  There should still be a lot of snow higher on the trail.  Bring microspikes.  Gaiters are a good idea too.

My objective is always to lead a hike inclusive of varying fitness and body types.  The goal is to travel at a pace that will help us build our aerobic base as opposed to racing for time.  That said, the trail climbs continuously with over 3300 feet of elevation gain.  I will hike upwards close to 1.5 to 2 mph.  On the way down I will move closer to 2.5 mph for an overall average of 2 mph or more.  If you have concerns before or during the hike, then I welcome and encourage you to ask questions.

We will leave the trailhead (coordinates: 47.4312-121.6324) at 8AM.

For those that want to carpool, then we will meet at the Eastgate Park and Ride at 7AM.  The P&R is a big one.  I will be in the southeast corner of the P&R (east side of the parking structure below the 142nd PL SE bridge (coordinates 47.580494, -122.151115).
