Basic Self Rescue Intro Seminar 1

Lecture: Intermediate Leading On Rock

Basic Self Rescue Intro Seminar 1 - Mountaineers Seattle Program Center

This is the first of 2 evening-seminars where we introduce basic self rescue methods for 5th-class terrain.

  • Casual

TBD

This seminar gives students a framework for approaching emergency situations along with some rope and rigging skills that may be useful for backing-off a route when there's a problem. We will broach several topics but a comprehensive treatment of rescue scenarios is beyond the scope of this introduction. Many of the skills discussed will focus on prevention. Other methods can be useful when something has gone wrong but largely assume that you partner is able to help.

Example topics: When and how to call SAR, how to come down, lowering in guide mode, ETO with a load releasing hitch, ascending the rope, passing knots, and relative strength hardware, bolts and soft goods.
