Intermediate Alpine Ice Course - Everett

Course Description

This course prepares students to travel safely on moderate to steep alpine ice.

Course Outcomes

  • Evaluate ice conditions
  • Move efficiently and confidently
  • Place effective protection
  • Build ice anchors
  • Strategize and adapt leading safely based on terrain

Note about registration: Everett branch Intermediate Students have priority for registration until June 15.

This course consists of one lecture and one field trip; two field trip dates are listed, but the second one (Aug 6-7) is the alternate date in case of a weather cancelation for the primary trip. Please keep both dates open but if all goes well we will only go out on July 30-31.

Road Closure Impact: Please be aware that this year's field trip to the Coleman Seracs on Mt Baker will be impacted by the closure of the access road. We will have an additional ~5mi of road and 2,000' elevation gain on the approach and descent. Students and instructors will have to either walk this section or use a bike (the bike option will be sorted out closer to the time of the trip).
