This course is for recent graduates of our Branch Courses who want to return as Activity Leaders and Assistant Instructors. Current leaders will have an opportunity to refresh their decision-making and people skills.

This course is designed to 1) acquaint our future leaders with the knowledge and skills they need to successfully  plan, post and lead our hikes, climbs, kayak trips, scrambles, ski trips, snow shoe trips and lookout and trail maintenance activities, etc.; 2) provide our experienced leaders with an opportunity to sharpen their decision making abilities and share their knowledge and experience with new leaders; 3) learn about the Everett Branch and the Mountaineers;  4) meet other Mountaineers and 5) build Branch esprit de corps.

The focus of the course will be on Mountaineers who have completed a basic course within the last year or two.  However, all Mountaineers who are interested in outdoor leadership are invited to attend.

SUBJECTS INCLUDE:  History and Governance of the Mountaineers, Creating Trips on the Mountaineer Website, Safety Programs and Safety Reporting, Liability Protections, Women in Leadership Roles, Types of Leaders, BREAK OUT SESSIONS covering leadership problems, Mountain Rescue Operations.

Coffee, Tea, Rolls and Snacks will be served.  Lunch will also be provided to participants.

REI gift certificates and Outdoor Leadership Books will be raffled off at the end of the day.  Participants will earn an Outdoor Leadership Course Badge.
