We will hike up Box Canyon for 2 1/2 miles. The trail then turns steeply uphill for a 1300 foot gain in 1 mile to Rachel Lake. After a break at Rachel Lake, we will climb another 450 feet to Rampart Ridge, and then on to Rampart Lakes for lunch. The total elevation gain is about 2400 feet, 11 miles round trip. Recent trip reports have warned of heavy mosquito activity, so bring bug repellent or protective clothing. The trail is heavily used and rutted, so bring sturdy hiking shoes. Bring plenty of water, and or a water filter/purifier if you have one. Don't forget the 10 essentials. Even though the weather has been clear, don't forget rain gear.
Pace: The pace will be moderate, with frequent breaks for water and snacks.
Map: USGS Snoqualmie Pass.
Meet at the Rachel Lake trailhead at 9:00AM. (N 47.4007, W 121.2840) NW Forest Pass is required. Driving directions will be sent to participants along with info to help them arrange carpools, if desired. Box Canyon Road is rutted and potholed, but passable for all cars. Drive it carefully.
