Introduction to frontcountry Trail Running

Frontcountry trail running refers to running on established trails that are easily accessible, typically have cell phone coverage, and are frequented by day users. Examples of such trails include those in the Issaquah Alps, city and state parks, and urban trail corridors. The curriculum addresses the basic knowledge and resources needed to plan trail running routes and begin running on trails, safely and with increased confidence.  This course is ideal for road runners and outdoor recreation enthusiasts who wish to discover trail running.

This course is generally listed and opened for registration in early spring with a start date in late spring. This course is offered by our Foothills branch.

Introduction to Backcountry Trail Running

The curriculum covers how to travel as a trail runner in the backcountry safely. This course is ideal for outdoor recreation enthusiasts with an interest in trail running and runners who wish to take their trail running to the next level. This course's badge is required for participation in backcountry trail running trips.

Introduction to fastpacking

Fastpacking is where trail running meets ultralight backpacking. Learn how to get started in this growing sport! The Backcountry Trail Run course badge or equivalent is required for participation in backcountry overnight trail running trips.
