Trip Report

Yellowjacket Tower/East Flank

10/11/15. [If you find or hear about a BD Camalot and Red tricam found at base of hidden gully, please contact Brian Starlin.]
Mostly sunny and cool, route in shade most of the day. Made the mistaken of heading for the yellow/green wall to the right just above the chockstone. Headed up higher (500 feet or so?) on the loose and slippery gully to the correct wall and base of gully. Used handline to help get up and then across to the base of climb. Led the hidden gully pitch for full rope length to the two-bolt anchor, then headed up the dihedral on the right. One rope team mistakenly went past and came back down. One of climbers attempted the pitch in boots and struggled, but made it up eventually with some coaching. Rock shoes strongly recommended. On the pitch, look right for good steps instead of trying to tackle the crack and the tree hanging over your head. Routefinding and delay contributed to late descent time. Finished last rappel as the sun went down.
