Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Norse Peak

This was barely a scramble, let alone a winter scramble. A group of 9 experienced scramblers and climbers took their snowshoes for a hike on a delightfully sunny Sunday.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • There was a small amount of snow on the trail, but it was warm enough that spikes weren’t necessary. We also brought snowshoes, which also weren’t necessary. We mostly took the summer trail to the summit. At one point the trail disappeared and we had to navigate along the ridge line toward Norse Peak. It required maybe 50’ of actual scramble skills before the trail showed back up, which we followed to the summit. We took a lower route from the summit that didn’t require the ridge walk.

A group of nine experienced scramblers and climbers departed the Norse Peak trail at around 8:20 AM. Conditions were excellent. A good time was had by all.

Distance: 9.36 miles

Elevation gain: 2993’

Car-to-car time: 6:11
