Norse Peak

A winter or spring snow scramble that is 8 miles round trip with 2,900 feet of elevation gain near the Crystal Mountain Ski Area. Consider scrambling Kahuna Peak with Norse Peak or on its own. From the summit of both peaks, enjoy views of Mount Rainier, Mount Adams, and Mount Stuart, Slide Mountain, Castle Mountain, and many others.

getting there

From SR-410  turn onto Crystal Mountain Blvd and drive to the Crystal Mountain Ski Resort (4,400 ft).

approach & ascent

Norse Peak (6,856 ft)

8 miles round trip, 2,900 feet of elevation gain

Hike east from the chapel at the ski area to the road immediately behind the ski area to Bullion Basin Trail. Intersect, within 0.5 mile, the old ski run ascending right. Follow this to 4,900 ft. Cross stream in nearby woods and head NNE. Gain the ridge, avoiding avalanche slopes and scramble the ridge north to summit.

Kahuna Peak (6,304 ft)

5.5 miles round trip, 2,300 feet of elevation gain

A peak about a mile NNW of Norse Peak.

Permits

As of 2017, the Snoqualmie Ranger District considers Mountaineers trips and courses to be "nominal use". Leaders should print and copy this designation letter to show rangers they may see on trail or carry a digital copy on their phone.
