Winter Scramble - Norse Peak

Good day in the mountains! Low snow compared to years past. Scrambled both Kahuna and Norse

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Micro spikes from the TH.  Put on snowshoes around 6300ft (Kahuna Peak).   Last bit along the ridge to the summit from the false summit had a heavy cornice with cracks noted.  We saw some old snowshoe tracks on the cornice side of the cracks which we of course avoided. Easily done by staying in the rocks to the summit. Some of the group booted down with microspikes while others snowshoed down.  Snow was crusty. Always windy on the ridge requiring a shell and extra layers.

Gear used snowshoes, ice axe, micro spikes. Gear brought but not used crampons.
