The gate at Longmire opened at 9:00. There were some patches of ice on the road to Paradise. Despite concern about a forecast windchill of around zero degrees the cold was manageable and the wind reasonable. Snow conditions could hardly have been better: a couple inches of powder for good cushioning and little trouble breaking trail.
Cowlitz Rock seems to be getting more popular for snowshoers, though with of course far from the crowds around Paradise.
