Trip Report

Winter Scramble - Arthur Peak (winter)

Majestic winter views of Willis Wall on Mount Rainier. A fitting reward after some classic NW rainforest cross country travel on this ~3700’/9 mile trip.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Snow did not begin in earnest until ~4000’ (amazing for the end of March), and we brought but did not use our snowshoes.

Majestic winter views of Willis Wall on Mount Rainier.  A fitting reward after some classic NW rainforest cross country travel on this ~3700’/9 mile trip.  After hiking ~2 miles along the Carbon River Road (snow free) we followed an almost due S line to the summit.  Lots of brush on the bottom land crossing to Falls Creek Falls with intermittent shallow snow to make log walking interesting.  Total time of just under 11 hours, with 1 hour for sun basking and views on the summit.  Photos from this trip and other trips to this venue can be seen here.
