Trip Report

Snowking Mountain/Northeast Shoulder

With a great mid-April weather forecast, our party of four set out to climb Snowking. Early season conditions had snow levels about 4,000ft on the approach up to saddle; the trail up was otherwise clear except for some blow-down trees. We brought (and used) snow shoes to reach our ridge camp above lakes, overlooking Cyclone Lake with 360-degree views of all the adjacent north cascade peaks. Climb day we descended to the outlet of Cyclone lake, crossed a portion of the frozen lake, and ascended the ridge to the west; snow was sufficiently firm for crampons. Summit was covered in snow; 3 hours camp to summit. Outstanding trip for views to the cascades.
