Trip Report

Seattle Olmsted Circuit: Section 1 complete!

My ‘26 resolution is to walk this 75 (70?) mile circuit, 1 section/month, ideally. A frighteningly beautiful day for January (kids playing IN StREAM at Golden Gardens)!! Enjoyed the PDF tips and map! Excited to tackle section 2 in Feb!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • I’m so glad I decided to make this my “big athletic challenge goal” of 2026! Thanks to the gentleman I ran into in my neighborhood (Magnolia) my on one of my daily walks about a month ago. It’s very nice man has supposedly written some books for mountaineers (they were out touring the neighborhood for research). The kind man I met (David?) handed me the Seattle Olmstead 75 urban trail map! I like to set ambitious athletic goals for myself each new year, and this felt like the perfect challenge for someone recovering from plantar fasciitis! I’m hoping by the end of the year I’ll be running some sections of this trail. No matter if not! As long as I complete the 12 sections!!  My teenager joined me for the first part of this trek, then got bored and decided to take the bus home in Ballard… Ha! Typical teenager, lol. I have to admit I got a little confused when I got to Finney because the PDF has two pages, and instead of navigating to the right column, I drifted down to the second page where it tells you to find 32nd Ave., Northwest and head north. I had to stop and read the PDF carefully! I finally figured out that I was navigating the PDF incorrectly! The good news was when I figured this out, I had completed section one! I was elated to find this. Instead of doing a loop, I’ve decided to walk the entirety of each section and figure out how to navigate the bus system back home. A good exercise for any Seattleite in a warming climate!

    COOL SURPRISES:
    1. Yard on Loyal Heights Wy  had an interesting dragon lawn ornament!
    2. Walked right by a couple of my favorite treat locations!!: Larson‘s bakery and Frankie and Joe’s!
    3. Had never heard of a “vest pocket” park!!  Was delighted to find this!
