Route in great condition with Marsh and Foster Island section at near 50-year excellent state of path. New, steel decking on many sections. Only minor mud and pothole weeps. Good access to view platforms (tower needs improved first/last step). Feet dry first to last step on Marsh and Foster, a treat for early December and local rains.
Leader anticipated long closure after recent visits--great to be mistaken.
Light mist greeted us outside Husky Stadium at 7:45 am but rain never found us along our 3-hour trek. Drawbridge was the usual mix of walkers and speeding cyclists--ever advise single file and diligence. Saw construction activity at ASUW Shell House but main attractions was splendid displays of water foul--what a fleet of Mergansers. Perched Bald Eagle barely turned a head and solo Heron occupied an abandoned pier. Rowers paid us no mind along the cut but what a treat to see their sweat-powered glides over the canal.
Arboretum was quiet and Graham Visitor Center bathrooms were open and in usual great shape. Plant sale drew interest outside but no buyers and center was closed at 9:15. Azalea Way was sparsely populated -- remaining Coyote did not make an appearance.
Navigated Boyer staying on south side (grass, then sidewalk) and crossed intersecting streets a few meters away from intersections to lower risks. Interlaken Blvd was without cyclists and hidden (from blvd view) free standing granite stairs down were easily found using up stairs across the way as a landmark. Quiet at St Demetrios Church and along streets to SR520 congested intersection where major construction is on until 2031 (advisory sign).
Wrapped with a stroll over the 520 pedestrian flyover admiring our earlier route across the islands. Closed with a looking-ahead conversation near Husky Stadium about walks in December and January.
