Sea Kayaking Student Paddle - Budd Inlet

This was an experience paddle geared toward individuals who recently took the Olympia Basic Sea Kayaking course.

  • Conditions were benign – with little current, warm weather with blue skies, and a light wind of about 4 mph.

This was an experience paddle geared toward individuals who recently took the Olympia Basic Sea Kayaking course. We launched from Swantown Marina so equipment would be available for students. There were 4 Basic Class students, 2 assistant leaders, and myself.

We paddled to the end of West Bay, then north past Tugboat Annies, then to Butler Cove, across Budd Bay, then to Squaxin Park, and back to Swantown. We paddled a total of 9 statute miles and all students kept up well. All 4 students also successfully performed self and assisted rescues near Squaxin Park.
