Winds and waters were very calm the whole day. Sunny and cold. Chose a high tide window with a minimal range and had easy access to wherever we wanted to go and encountered no mud at our landings.
We launched from the frosty boat ramp at Langus Park. Temps just starting to budge upward from 27°F. Proceeded south and around to Langus Point where we found the south end of Spencer Island and headed put the east side. Took a short detour to the interior the island but found nothing of great interest. Resumed our course up the east side to Otter Island and paddled around it counter clockwise. Found a nice landing on a grassy shelf just east of Otter and took a break there. Resumed travel around Otter and saw a seal where the waters rejoined. Followed the far shore south to the north end of Spencer and went down the west side. Our planned lunch spot was too busy with hunting activity so we paddled a little further south and found a great spot with great views of the Olympics, Baker, Pilchuck, Three Fingers and other peaks. Continued south the the main channel of the Snohomish and back to Langus Park boat ramp. Saw lots of birds along the way and had a great day! About 8 nMi total with average speed of 2.6 kts and max speed of 4.9 coming downstream.
