Sea Kayak - Skagit & Hope Islands

Circumnavigation of Skagit and Hope islands starting and ending in Cornet Bay in Deception Pass State Park.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Great conditions with a slight breeze out of the north, clear skies, and temperatures in the high 50s. Minimal boat traffic for a Saturday with fantastic weather. Great place to stop for lunch at the Hope Island State park on the north side of the island.

Nine paddlers departed Cornet Bay in Deception Pass State Park to travel around Skagit and Hope Islands. As usual, there was ample parking and great bathroom facilities at this launch point. We traveled from Cornet Bay riding a 1.4 knot flood tide to the northwest corner of Skagit Island for a quick break at the campground. We then proceeded south to Hope Island and poked around the south side of the island in very calm and sunny seas. We saw Oyster Catchers, Harbor Seals, and an Eagle. We then proceeded to the state park on the north side of the island for lunch and then rode a 2.0 knot current back to our takeout point at Cornet Bay.

There's a good reason this is such a popular trip with a lot of paddlers. It's got some current to plan around and the scenery is stunning.
