Sea Kayak - Freshwater Bay

Although the water in the Bay was calm, we found some fun along the coast.

The morning was cold - there was ice on windshields - but the sun was shining as we donned our drysuits and prepared to launch.ready to launch FWB.jpg

The intent for the day was rock gardening.  The water in the Bay was calm, but we knew the swell could be larger around the bend from Bachelor Rock so off we went to see what we might find.  1baaeb2e-2f06-42f7-aa14-a87326cd0088~1.jpg

Once we rounded Bachelor Rock, the swell direction did turn out to be sufficient to create some fun play spots.  20260314_110316.jpg

We also found shallow caves to explore and passages to navigate as well as corridors and walls to noodle and practice boat control.  1645d75b-03b7-4d98-ad96-e91ef41a1628~1.jpg

We ate lunch in sheltered Eagle Cove but didn't tarry because the sun was behind the cliffs above.  lunch beach March 14.jpg

Eagle Cove was our turn around point.  The wind and picked up with white caps forming and 2 foot waves on the Strait.  We headed out beyond the coves and, with the sind at our backs and even a few surfable waves going our way, we paddled back to the Bay in a sixth of the time we'd taken on our trip out.

The company was like any Mountaineer paddle, easy going, flexible, supportive of fellows and wildlife along the way (pigeon guilemots, cormorants, harlequin ducks, loons, surf scooters, and seals).
