Red Mountain (Commonwealth Basin)

Pleasant successful scramble on 8/17/14. A mix of sun and clouds all day, but not much in the way of views. I had done this peak many years ago and remembered a fairly direct route from where the trail passes above the pond. That's how we started, with various use trails or game trails zigzagging up the slope, less direct than I had remembered. It's easier if you take the more obvious use trail, marked by a cairn, that you come to well before the pond; this is how we came down, for a nice loop whose ascent was slightly more challenging than the standard one.
