Trip Report

March GoWalk! L5 Urban Walks: 4 to 8 miles, 500 to 1000 feet of elevation gain - Seattle Olmsted 70: Section 8, Loop

Walk from the High Point neighborhood in West Seattle down through Fauntleroy and Lincoln Parks. Loop option back up to Myrtle Reservoir Park.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Started at the north end of the Myrtle Reservoir Park and walked up to the viewpoint that is at 520 feet and offers sweeping views of the city and surrounding hills.   Moved south down 35th to Real Fine Coffee and had a quick latte stop.   After a few more blocks, turned west and walked through Fauntleroy Park.  The trail system leads to a few surrounding neighborhoods and offers a nice escape from the city.  Tall trees, braided trails, headwaters of Fauntleroy Creek and wetlands.  The Skunk Cabbage is blooming now!   The trails are a bit muddy, but overall conditions are great in the park.  Footing was good and not a lot of standing water.
From there, walked down toward the ferry terminal to Vashon Island and on to Lincoln Park.  Walked the Whale Trail and spotted the troll in the woods before exiting park toward Lowman Beach.  Back up California and through a P Patch and Solstice Park and continued climbing to Orchard Street Ravine and the final set of stairs back up to High Point.   Back to Myrtle Reservoir to complete the Section 8 Olmsted Loop.

Trip was at 2.5 mph and was right at 6 miles and 524 foot gain.   The area has nice sidewalks and plenty of opportunities to stop for a bite to eat or use a public restroom.
