- Snowshoeing
We went to the lakes from the PCT via Commonwealth Basin. the trail was mostly packed, until we got to the place after a super long switchback at about 4900 ft. From there it was a bit of route finding to get to the top of the ridge, around a knoll and down to the lakes. Microspikes were needed to travel on the icy/packed snow trail. Snowshoes would have been nice, though were not terribly missed once we were off trail.
Note of caution: At the final long switchback before the ridge, there is a section where the icy waterfalls are melting and chunks of ice come down. We had one such fall right near us. So be quick when getting past that section and keep an eye above you. the creek crossing there is a bit spicy as well - poles are helpful.
