Trip Report

Kangaroo Temple/North Face

7/27/2014. Our group of 6 started at the hairpin curve at about 5AM, but it was already light so no headlamps needed. The trail is pretty well marked with cairns all the way from the parking area. There is a climbers registration log located in the trees near the trail. There was only a small patch of snow on the trail which was easily bypassed so ice axes were not used. We arrived at the base of the climb at 8AM and the first team topped out at about 11AM. We did not see any other climbers on the route. We set up the anchor after the second pitch just before the corner at the start of the traverse, this allowed easy voice communication between here and the anchor at the end of the third pitch. We enjoyed a long lunch in sunny and hot weather at the summit. We used 3 single rope (60m) rappels to descend to the base avoiding any rope pulling issues common with double rope rappels. There were a large number of runners at all three rap stations, probably could use some cleaning. The hike out was hot and dry. There was a running stream located about halfway back to the pass. We were back at the cars at 6 PM.
