Trip Report

Intermediate Alpine Climb - Lane Peak/Zipper (winter)

A short and sweet snow climb in the Tatoosh.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The north-facing couloir held firm snow with steps already kicked in from previous parties. The snow on the route from the saddle to the summit was in the sun and very soft.

Our party of six left the Narada Falls parking lot at 9:15 a.m. We followed the creek downstream until we were almost below Lane Peak and crossed on a good-sized snow bridge. We reached the base of the Zipper couloir around 10:30 a.m. The snow conditions were very good so we decided not to rope up. After about 45 minutes we topped out of the couloir and were on the summit before noon.

Gear: We carried but did not use ropes, pickets, ice screws, and a small rock rack.
