Trip Report

Intermediate Alpine Climb - Black Peak/Northeast Ridge

Very fun climb; incredible views from the ridge and summit.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

This was a very fun climb.  There are plenty of helpful trip reports already on this website describing the climb.  Adding this TR just to share how we caught the ridge, which worked really well for us.

The red line I drew tracks a great big ramp that rises gradually left to right.  We accessed the ramp by ~ 10' of 4th class from the top of the snow band (and after stepping over a small moat).  The ramp was no worse than 2nd class.

I'll also share that a 35m gym rope and a double rack of cams .3 to 2" worked out perfectly for my wife and I.  With the extra gear we had no problem simul climbing the entire ridge (from rope up to true summit) with just two transitions.
