Glacier Climb - Glacier Peak/Disappointment Peak Cleaver

Strenuous but not technical 3 day Glacier climb. Please note the trail will be closed after July 27th. A notice was posted, but no explanation given.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • Two washouts on the road right before the TH. Second one requires a higher clearance vehicle. Only a few minutes walk. Snow starting about treeline. Reliable stream at about 4200' ft. Multiple small snow melt streams after that, but not sure later in season. Continuous snow after White Pass. Glaciers in good shape, only one crevasse to side step on the Cool.

Met at the TH and started hiking at 9:30. Followed the recommended route on this website and reached some rock outcrops that provided an adequate dry camp on the Whitechuck Glacier around 7:30. We were able to drop to the lake below to pump water from the melted edges. Started on summit day at 4:30 am. We reached the summit around 10:30, spent a few minutes for summit photo and dropped to the the col by Disappointment Pk for lunch. Returned to camp by 3:30 and spent the afternoon enjoying the warm temps and beautiful views. Departed Sunday at 8:30 and reached the TH by 4:15. Weather  was sunny and very warm, definitely unlike most high elevation glacier climbs.
