Trip Report

Day Hike - Westberg Trail

A moderate hike in the area south of Ellensburgto with outstanding views from the Stuart Range to the Goat Rocks.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Reasonable trails (and a road) all the way.  No big crowds on a Friday.

Having parked in the Manstash Ridge Trail parking lot, we ascended by way of the tree-shaded Boy Scout Trail. Then we hiked to the west on the road atop the ridge. After about a mile, we turned south to attain the single-pine-demarcated ~3,800’ closed contour. Flowers are fading up there, but the view from Goat Rocks to the Stuart Range remains impressive. We encountered a horned toad and a swarm of what turn out to be called Mormon crickets. We returned by way of the Westberg trail.
