Trip Report

Day Hike - Squak Mountain: Sycamore Access

From Sycamore Access TH on SE Crystal Creek Circle, the trail immediately climbs through switchbacks for a great workout. Very (very) limited parking at TH.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail in great condition.  On the log bridge near the junction of Sycamore Access and East Ridge, there's a sign indicating future replacement and current limit of 3 persons on the log bridge at one time.

From Sycamore Access TH, the trail immediately climbs through switchbacks, from 300’ elevation to 1200’, in 1.5 miles for a great workout. We did our loop in a clockwise direction (Sycamore Access→East Ridge→Phil’s Creek→East Side→Sycamore Access). For total of 5.7 miles and accumulated elevation gain of 1500'.  There's very (very) limited parking next to the Sycamore Access TH on SE Crystal Creek Circle. Room for 1-2 vehicles if snuggly parked (see picture). Any other parking ends up in someone’s front yard (so, don’t do that). We carpooled from the Rainier TH on 2nd, which has its only tiny carpark, room there for 6 tidily parked vehicles or 4, if not. Since it was a school day, there were highschoolers parking here, too (google map location) .
