Road construction on Highway 410 over Chinook pass is complete to the top of the pass.
The group met at the Crystal Lakes trailhead at 8:00 and there was plenty of parking. We left four cars at that trailhead and the group carpooled in four cars to the trailhead at Chinook pass. At 8:30 there were only a few parking spaces left.
The trail to Sheep Lake and Sourdough Gap is in good condition and we met numerous backpack groups and PCT through hikers. The haze from the wild fires dimmed the views but didn't affect our breathing. The wild flowers in the Crystal Lakes basin are still going strong. We reached the Crystal Lakes trailhead at 2:00 and completed the car shuttle back to Chinook Pass by 2:30.
