Paved roads, paved parking lot, and privies (bring toilet paper/wipes/hand sanitizer). It was a Sunday and close to Seattle. If one does not get there early, expect the parking lot to be filled and overflow along the roadway, seemingly all the way back to the freeway exit. Discover Pass.
Threatening thunderstorms held until we returned to the parking lot, yeah! We met around 8:00 AM-ish. Weather was cool but not cold. The trail was seemingly all up and we warmed as we hiked. Breath-stop at Stan's Overlook. The trail was clear but Stan's had a small area of snow, off trail but near. View was clear. As we continued up to Grand Prospect, our hiking trail with bike barriers, continued to cross paths with bike trails. We encountered many more cyclists than hikers.
At Grand Prospect there was a large patch of snow off trail. We met a couple from another Mountaineer's branch and had a grand view of the valley and Mt Si. The trail continued to the other side of the mountain and several frontcountry runners blazed past us. We had lunch on the picnic table and benches. We created a small snowperson, which probably lasted until it rained. The sky was overcast but still made for great photos.
The hike down was uneventful. The trail was wide at many places and well maintained. One can understand why the trail becomes busy with hikers. We did see many trail bikes that day. At one intersection there was a bicycle pump strapped to a post. The overflow parking was mainly bikers and trailers for bikes.
It was a quick hike with views. Suitable for visiting families/guests. Our post-hike meal was in nearby Issaquah WA. Overall a fun hike with great hikers. Too crowded for me and one could hear freeway noise. Doubt I would hike a second time as I prefer secluded trails with lakes or waterfalls. Also, too close to town for me but others may prefer that.
