Day Hike - Eagle Creek to Tunnel Falls

Columbia River Gorge hike, showcasing waterfalls and wildflowers

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • trail has some rocks and roots, but mostly good tread, following along Eagle Creek.eagle1.jpg

Some sections have exposure to steep dropoffs, but trail is wide and there are ropes to hold on to if needed. eagle6.jpg

Located on the Oregon side of the Columbia River, it's a 3 hr drive from Seattle, so overnighting in the area might be a good idea.  Several of us stayed in Beacon Rock State Park which had lovely sites.  The Bridge of the Gods has a 3$ toll fee each way.  Parking could be limited, but we were mid-week and had no problem at 9am.

Trail was lush with greenery, ferns and flowers

We passed 9 waterfalls (Cascade, Plunge, Bowl, horsetail, tiered).  This is the impressive Tunnel Falls (67' Plunge), which you can walk behind!

There were also many wildflowers blooming, several of which were unique, like the White Shooting Star (below).  We also saw Fern Leaf biscuitroot, Coast Range Lomatian, White inside-out flower, short spur seablush and crevice alumroot.
