Trip Report

Day Hike - Driveway Butte

Great day to hike to Little Drive, between flowers, views, and slightly overcast conditions making it cool enough to avoid overheating.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We all met up at the signed and stocked TH, and were happy to see slightly overcast conditions.  During the hike, we enjoyed a progression of wildflowers, so many species!  The obvious arrowleaf balsamroot, as we are finishing up a super bloom of this amazing plant, but so many others including: snowberry, serviceberry, chokecherry, silver crown, paintbrush, larkspur, lupine, desert parsley, buckwheat, meadow rue, ball head waterleaf, checker lily, and up higher, glacier and avalanche lilies both, yellow bells, and spring beauty.  Great variety!

The trail is in generally good shape, steep as always.  There is one very large tree down at the lower switchback, there is a rough way around it.  On the upper switchbacks, the tread is getting quite thin in places; just watch your step, and you should be fine.

Lots of peaks to spot and name at our lunch break on top, but the wind came up and it got chilly, so no time for summit lounging.  Of course, it got warmer as we headed down and out of the wind.  Great trip - will put on repeat!
