Day Hike - Dickerman Mountain

Owl hike on Dickerman. Hiked up in the dark, camped out for a few hours, watched the (spectacular) sunrise and then hiked down. Somewhere between a day hike and a backpack.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is  in fairly good shape and easy to follow. Some big steps up rocks and roots in places. Not much brush except in one short spot.

Left TH at 8:00pm. Three hours to the top in the dark.  Brief glimpses west of the sunset and the moon on Big Four, Sperry, Del Campo, etc.  No problem finding the trail in the dark. No wind and quite warm all the way up.

Found small flat-ish spots for the three of us to bivy for the night.  Lots of stars out and a bright moon. No sign of the northern lights spotted in the past few days. Could see the clouds starting to fill the valley to the west.

Woke up at 0500 for the sunrise show. It was 3,000% awesome!  A sea of clouds below, islands and archipelagos of peaks all around and the horizon red and yellow and pink. Baker and Shuksan, Glacier Peak and lots of others visible (no Rainier). The clouds were all around down low but we enjoyed the sun as it came over the horizon just north of Glacier Peak.  After a quick breakfast we headed down, into the clouds.  Back at the TH just after 9am and home by noon.
