Trip Report

Day Hike - Cougar Mountain Loop

Hike to a couple waterfalls in a local forest.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • The trail was completely free of snow. There were some muddy areas though it won't slow you down. On the other hand, there were a lot of blow downs which required us to climb over some fallen trees.

We arrived at the trailhead at 8 AM and had plenty of parking available. The parking lot was completely full when we returned to the trailhead around noon.  The weather for the majority of the hike was overcast with a little bit of rain though it was too little to require wearing any rain gear.

The original hike was supposed to stop by Coal Creek Falls and De Leo Wall. We reach Coal Creek Falls with little delay. Coal Creek Falls had plenty of water which made for a nice view whereas later in the year it'll be pretty much dry. As we made our way to De Leo Wall we decided to make a very short detour to Far Country Falls. Far Country Falls is narrower and mossier than Coal Creek Falls which gave us some variety in the waterfalls we got to see. We never made it to De Leo Wall since the route we were taking had a large tree in the way and none of us wanted to climb over it seeing as it was cloudy and we already saw some waterfalls. Overall, this made for a very nice hike!
