Trip Report

Day Hike - Chutla & Eagle Peaks

Excellent hike, no rain until more than half-way back to the cars.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail is in excellent shape overall.  Some big steps below the saddle due to erosion.  No wild flowers, berries are gone, a few yellow-jackets around but bugs were not a problem.  About a dozen other hikers on the trail.

Weather was cool and fairly clear in the morning, but we could see and smell wildfire smoke on the way up.  Occasional sun, with some high swirling clouds.  Spent an hour at the saddle enjoying the views and taking photos.  Saw and heard many pikas on the boulder field on the way up to the saddle.  No rain until more than half way back to the cars.  Roughly 6.5 hours round trip, 3,000' gain.  Great group, fun trip!
