Day Hike - Blanca Lake

Challenging hike to a bigly, like no one has ever seen, fabulous turquoise blue lake.

  • Road rough but passable
  • The trail is in good condition.  There are some trail sections where the brush is overhanging but is manageable.  The trail has a lot of exposed roots.  Small patches of snow remain but not on the trail.

As of 11 July 25, The Mounties "Getting There" information is incorrect.  The Index-Galena road has been repaired and is drive-able to the trailhead.  The NF-63 road turnoff from FS-63 to the trailhead is not marked and can be easily missed.  NF-63 has potholes, but is passable if driven slowly with a low clearance vehicle.  There is a washout over a bridge which has a fair amount of rocks on top of the bridge but is passable.

Arrived at 9:15AM to a 3/4 full trailhead parking lot.  Started hiking at 9:30AM and the parking area was almost full.  Arrived at the lake at 12:30PM.  Departed the lake at 1:15PM and arrived back at the trailhead at 3:30PM.  Finished the hike with milkshakes at Zeke's Drive In.
