Copper Ridge

  • Mon, Aug 18, 2014
  • Hannegan Pass
  • Backpacking

We camped our first night at Hannegan Camp. On our second day, we hiked to our second camp at Silesia Camp on Copper Ridge, with low clouds limiting any view. After setting up camp, we day hiked to the Copper Mountain Lookout. While this Lookout is known for spectacular views, we saw none due to the low clouds. On the way back to our camp, we detoured down to Egg Lake for water, as Silesia is a dry camp. Finally, on the morning of our third day, the clouds lifted and we enjoyed the views for which Copper Ridge is justly famed.
Be advised obtaining the required camping permits are challenging for Copper Ridge - they cannot be reserved in advance and are only available one day before you start your trip. Since many people are concluding longer trips with the Copper Ridge segment, and thereby obtain their Copper Ridge permit several days before they play to camp there, no Copper Ridge camping permits may be available for those planning to start their trip on Copper Ridge.
