The parking lot was in really rough shape. Many large potholes. Drive very slowly. About two inches of snow in the parking lot when arrived, started to get slushy when we left in the afternoon.
Packed snow covered nearly the entire trail. We needed microspikes the whole time. There were four downed about halfway up -- three to go under, and one to go over.
The directional sign for the Old/New Trail at the top is missing/gone -
I normally wouldn't post a trip report of Mt. Si especially since I've been up the new trail probably 10 times now, but there was a ton of new snow that had fallen two-three days prior which made for some really nice scenery and views. I've included some of the photos in this report....
I led a group of 5 basic climbing students from Tacoma. We did our group introductions and headed up the trail all wearing microspikes. Nearly the entire trail was covered in packed snow, but the use of microspikes made for travel to be easy. There were four downed trees about halfway up -- three that we had to go under, one that we had to go over.
We made decent time and made it to the clearing. It was filtered sunshine at the top. We had a hazy view of Mt. Rainier and surrounding peaks and a nice view of the Olympics to our west. The wind was blowing so we didn't stay long. A group from OSAT also made it to the top right behind us.
We were all back at the car by 1:30pm.
Nothing too exciting about the trip itself, but the views were nice. Mt. Si is beautiful when covered in snow so hopefully you enjoy some of the photos below.
