Saturday's trip (6/28/14)went pretty much as expected and fell well within the exciting "successful" category on the Mountaineers' new website. The winds settled down as predicted for the first half of the trip as we rounded Governors Point into Pleasant Bay and then headed on up to Chuckanut Island for snacks and/or lunch. Next, we paddled on to Clarkes Point to check out the crazy formations there. Then around the north end of the bay and over to tranquil little Teddy Bear Cove for another break. The paddle down from there to truly Pleasant Bay was quite a workout. The south wind had picked up and turned that part of the paddle into a bit of a slog. After resting before taking on Governors Point again, we found the trip back to Wildcat Cove to be bumpy in a perfectly educational sort of way and not as rough as expected. Feeling invincible, we loaded up our boats and headed on to some great food and beer at the fabulous Conway Pub and Eatery.
Creature catalog (partial): ochre sea stars, sand dollars, black oystercatchers, pigeon guillemots, western gulls, harlequin ducks, cormorants, harbor seals, blue herons, egrets, hawks and limpets.
