Trip Report

Basic Snowshoe - Surveyors Lake

Lots of new snow to enjoy!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

Met down in town, and elected to begin the drive up traction tires required I-90, and found slowish but workable driving conditions.  We parked at Silver Fir, and enjoyed the heated restrooms and place to put on boots. We then put on snowshoes right at the car, and headed up. Wow, all that new snow!  No established tracks, lots of trail breaking shared by a willing and gregarious group. In four hours of pretty steady travel, we arrived at the Grand Junction, and had a pleasant lunch in the warming hut there. There, we were joined by the one other party we saw for the entire day, a couple of skiers who had appreciatively followed our trench. We then took about an hour to follow our tracks back down to our cars, but did stop to enjoy some hot chocolate at the lodge before the drive back home. Super glad we persevered and drove to the Pass to experience the beauty of all that fresh powder!
