Basic Rock Climb - The Tooth/South Face

Successful summit of The Tooth

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

We had a group of 6 for a perfect end of summer day on The Tooth. Myself and Justin as leaders with 4 students, Alex, Thomas, Arlo, and Chris.

We started hiking up the Snow Lake Trail just after 7am. The parking lot was busy, which we anticipated for a Saturday. The trail is well maintained and easy to follow to the first turn off where you head towards source lake. The pineapple pass boot path was also very distinct and easy to find. It definitely becomes more of a climbers trail and there is some braiding, but there are some carins to mark the way. Once in the boulder field you can easily see your objective and choose the path of least resistance.
After gaining the notch we put helmets on for the down climb and scramble to get to the base of The Tooth.

9:50 we arrived at the base. One party was on the route and one party waiting. While we waited in line we racked up and had some snacks.
10:30 our first group started climbing. Justin and I had decided to each bring a 70m rope and tie into the middle and bring 2 followers up on both ends. The pitches are short and this worked well. The route was quite busy but we managed the belays well while being mindful of parties starting to rap down the route.

1:15 all 6 of us made the summit. We had a short break for snacks and to take in the view.

1:45 we set up for the first rappel. Everyone was efficient at setting up. You rap the climbing route and it was still quite busy and we had to be mindful of other parties.

3:00 we made it back down to the base. From here you can scramble back down around to the notch that you came up. We decided to check out the rappel down pineapple pass. There’s 2 bolted rapps down this gully. We tied our 2 - 70m ropes together for one big rap down.

The hike out was straightforward and we made it back to the cars by 5:45. We celebrated our 4 students getting their graduation climb in!
