Basic Rock Climb - The Tooth/South Face

It was a traditional Basic climb taking the full 12 hours. For a summer approach it wasn't as bad as I remembered, at least now that I am home.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Trail was normal for this time of year, there was no water be sure to pack what is necessary for the trip. I will note rockfall however probably standard for summertime.

nw forest pass or america the beautiful pass, parking is coned off quadrants. Great time  out super grateful for the 5:20 AM Start, ( NO WATER  along the route) we made good time to the boulder field and up the pass ( 3 1/2 hours ) before traffic started for tooth fairy, we were the first up p 1 and p 2  on the south face before the guides and a few other parties showed up. after the summit we got 1st on rappel which saved us a bunch of time.  We chose not to rappel the dirty gulley ( which was the right choice lots of rockfall) and as always the field coming down takes more time then the stoked students think. We got back around 4:45 pm debriefed.  The weather was perfect with a slight overcast most of the day and smoke was visible to the east but didn't affect us.
