Trip Report

Basic Rock Climb - The Tooth/South Face

Great weather on a quiet Friday climb. Snow bridge across the gully about to fail with holes opening in the snow throughout the route.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Snow starts above Source Lake and is relatively thin cover in places. No additional traction was needed. The snow bridge over the main gully is getting very thin.

During the afternoon return, several folks punched through snow while descending the lower snow-covered slopes below Great Scott Basin. Water was available in the pool at the bottom of Great Scott Basin.

11 hours roundtrip at a leisurely pace with basic students. Stopped several times to fetch water. With the warm and sunny conditions, most people drank ~3-4L total. We encountered two other parties of two climbers each on the Tooth. Clear weather yielded fantastic views from the summit.
