Basic Rock Climb - Kangaroo Temple/North Face

Fantastic alpine rock climb!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • No snow, lotsa bugs, wildflowers are prob just past their peak but plenty still out. Water running up to the tarn below the saddle. After that it's bone dry.

From the cars, look for a cairn. There should be abundant cairns marking the way, but when in doubt, mainly trend uphill and towards the RIGHT until you pick up the trail again.

From the saddle, you can either descend about 200' down a horrible trail until you see a trail branch 90 degrees off to the LEFT, or travers over rock slab towards KT. You should be able to traverse or follow trail downwards until it intersects the other path mentioned above. When in doubt, choose the higher path.

Beyond that, just make sure you are skirting the foot(s) of the blank slabs. You will pass several.

Once to the open talus field below the base of the route, I always try to get to the solid rock off to the right vs  trying to tiptoe through scree.
