Basic Glacier Climb - Sloan Peak/Corkscrew Route

Cruiser send up the Corkscrew route to the summit of Sloan Peak. Back to the cars in time for dinner in Seattle.

  • Road recommended for high clearance only
  • Route is in okay shape. The trail starts at a yellow sign on the left before the end of the road. You pretty quickly get into steep/pointy shrubs that have some hidden rocks and logs you can trip on. After the shrubs section (giant orange trail marker starts your hella steep ascent section), you will need to follow the pink trail markers closely and attentively. If you miss your next pink marker, you will end up bushwhacking through some steep terrain until you hit the trail again.

The glacier is opening up in some locations, but nothing imposing your path yet. Smooth sailing. One small crevasse going through the bootpack will probably open up in a week or two.

The scramble has some moderate exposure, one of the main places being the choke up a small chute. It will slow down larger parties like the Mounties, so be sure to move through this part efficiently and don't cause a traffic jam. The down climb is straight forward.
