Basic Alpine Climb - The Tooth/South Face

Bluebird conditions - almost too good!

  • Road suitable for all vehicles
  • Summer route to the cut off above Source Lake was in great condition - looks like some trail maintenance has been going on.  Going across rock/boulder field is the same.  Snow is really getting thin in a lot of places.  Creeks are also quite full.  And the snow fields you have to cross are both slushy and icy.  Several people punched through the soft snow both in the morning and the afternoon - watch for melt outs by the rocks and trees.  Patience and route finding will be required.  The climb itself is always fun.  Conditions crossing over Pineapple Pass to go to the back for the climb was good - although it is melting quickly.  Several people glissaded down to the bowl.  Still can be done - just watch for rocks and holes.  Successfully got three students up and a first climb for one of my rope leads.   For a Thursday there were others on the route.  One of which just bombed past us without saying a thing.  Very happy we took a water filter with us - it was needed by the time we were down.

Ice Axes were taken.
