Alpine Scramble - Wahpenayo Peak Traverse

Gorgeous fall colors and clear skies on this beautiful 15 mile/5000’ trip.

  • Road suitable for all vehicles

  • Trip made more enjoyable by dew free heather/brush.  Although we brought micro-spikes ‘just in case’, we did not need them to negotiate the steep/slippery heather on Wahpenayo and the valley leading to Cliff Lake/Plummer Peak.

Gorgeous fall colors and clear skies on this beautiful 15 mile/5000’ trip.  The cool fall temperatures and absence of bugs added to the enjoyment.  Departed Longmire in the gloaming just before daybreak at 6:45am, and returned with half an hour of daylight to spare, for a total trip time just under 12 hours.  Photos from this (and other) trips to this venue can be seen here.
